We picked this guy up from one of those "horses wanted; cash paid" dealers back
in 1993. He had an old, way-to-small halter on him with a lead rope that
disappeared into thin air about two feet from the halter. He seemed to be
very afraid of people, and it was two months before we could touch him. He
has since turned out to be not only the most personable horse we have ever
owned, but hands down, bar none, the best teasing horse I have ever worked with.
He spends the breeding season in a large corral out in the mare pasture, where
the mares can approach from any side. The mares spend a couple of hours
around him about dawn before they come up for water and any feed we might be
giving them on top of the pasture. During the winter, he is out in the
mare pasture with the mares, and there is no trouble at all. He has an
excellent disposition, is extremely easy to handle including hand-breeding, and
behaves perfectly for the farrier. We have occasionally used him to breed
"older maidens" that were not conceiving with the chosen sire by A.I., and he
gets them in foal first time, every time. The mare owners have been
surprised and pleased with the oddball cross (usually expensive Warmblood
competition mares), and most have kept them! Given his career, we know
that "Bud" really looks forward to your booking.
